![]() No more inmumize bs (which was in favor of the player) or skill level scaling being super janky (with at least one skill that has 10 levels but the 10th level gives nothing, ot skills that lose half of its effects past certain level) Hidden classes are unlocked from the start (instead of unlocking at the last stratum and having to grind them from level 1Ĭlass balance is much much better. Imo the only reason to play the original over the remake is just curiosity, i would never recommend it. It felt much better balanced too even though the grimore system of untold is a total mess and the exp curve is not smooth. I played untold classic mode, for me it was a better experience that the original due to so many janky mechanics and lack of polish of the first game. Etrian Odyssey 2 Untold is also popular, as it irons out a lot of the issues from 1 Untold and is a straight up superior game to the original EO2. My personal favorite is EO3, but it's one of the most expensive games on the DS ($100+) unfortunately since it's a) the best of the 3 DS games and b) there's no remake out there to split the demand. I haven't played through in classic mode, but I am told the game was balanced in part around the extra content included in the story mode (basically, more levels / floors to explore periodically as you progress during the game), which means you may need to do some grinding to round things out in classic mode.įor all the "first time with Etrian Odyssey" posts here, EO4 comes up frequently as a recommendation, and it can be had quite cheaply whenever Atlus runs a sale on the 3DS eShop (which is fairly often). I do think it hits a few spoiler-y story beats significantly better than the way they are handled in Untold, but it's not generally a series that you'd play for the story anyhow.ĮOU has a few of its own problems. The original EO1 has some aspects that you may find annoying (the way leveling works encourages grinding some skills are broken shortcuts and warps to make it easier to get to specific parts of the labyrinth are more rare the NPCs rarely change their dialog). It will be hard to go backwards to the original EO after playing any of the later games in the series, including EOU, since they progressively include more and more quality of life upgrades. since the gameplay and customization is mainly what has made me interested in this series. So if anyone here has played both games, how good would you say EOU is as a remake? and are these problems brought up in the video something that bothered you?Īlso thought i should mention that if i were to play EOU, i would be playing on classic mode. for example what is said here in this video. My problem is now, should i should keep the EOU they sent me? or if i should send it back and get EO1? EOU was like 15 bucks more then EO1 so i technically got a way better deal out of this mistake. And I know that EOU is just a remake of EO1, but i have seen some mixed opinions on how good of a remake EOU is. I have contacted them about it, and they did agree to give me the correct game if i sent EOU back to them. However, when i got the package in the mail, the website that i ordered it from had sent me Etrian Odyssey Untold 1 and not Etrian Odyssey 1. Partially because it would be cool to see how the series started and also partially because where i ordered it from, it was the cheapest out of the ones available. I have wanted to try getting into some of the etrian odyssey games for a bit now, and after doing a bit of research i landed on trying out Etrian Odyssey 1.
